The nccPA Health Foundation seeks to equip and empower the more than 178,700 Board Certified physician assistants/physician associates (PAs) to improve health for all and is a supporting organization to the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). The Health Foundation leads the PArtners in Mental Health Initiative, which strives to advance the role of PAs and strengthen partnerships to address mental and behavioral health, including substance use disorder. The initiative utilizes a cross functional, collective impact strategy that engages PA organizations, PAs, and interprofessional partners to advance shared goals by conducting mutually reinforcing activities that enhance PA education, strengthen the practice environment, and raise awareness of PA contributions. The strategy works by equipping the profession’s regulators, educators, and clinicians to enhance integration of mental health in PA education and practice and ultimately to expand access to care.
